Rien Va!

L’Heautontimorumenos

Je te frapperai sans colère
Et sans haine, comme un boucher,
Comme Moïse le rocher
Et je ferai de ta paupière,

Pour abreuver mon Saharah
Jaillir les eaux de la souffrance.
Mon désir gonflé d'espérance
Sur tes pleurs salés nagera

Comme un vaisseau qui prend le large,
Et dans mon coeur qu'ils soûleront
Tes chers sanglots retentiront

Charles Baudelaire

Ti colpirò, senza odio e senza collera,
come un beccaio, come Mosè il sasso;
e perché possa al fine dissetare
il mio Sahara, le acque del dolore
zampillare farò dalla tua palpebra.
Rigonfio di speranza il desiderio
andrà sulle tue lacrime salate
come un vascello che si spinge al largo;
nel cuore inebriato dei tuoi singhiozzi,
che mi son cari, echeggeranno quasi
un tamburo che batte la sua carica.
Non sono forse un falso accordo nella
divina sinfonia, grazie all’edace
Coltello e piaga, schiaffo e guancia, membra
e ruota sono, vittima e carnefice;

THERE IS A PLEASURE IN THE PATHLESS WOODS

There is a pleasure in the pathless woods,
There is a rapture on the lonely shore,
There is society, where none intrudes,
By the deep sea, and music in its roar:
I love not man the less, but Nature more,
From these our interviews, in which I steal
From all I may be, or have been before,
To mingle with the Universe, and feel
What I can ne’er express, yet cannot all conceal.

e una musica nel suo ruggito;
dopo questi colloqui dove fuggo

All sechs Tagewerk im Busen fühlen,
In stolzer Kraft ich weiß nicht was genießen,
Bald liebewonniglich in alles überfließen,

poi, conchiudere l'alta intuizione...
non mi è lecito dir come!

J. W. Goethe, Faust

Se...essere padre fosse facile

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too:
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;
If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim,
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same:
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss:
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much:
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And—which is more—you'll be a Man, my son!

If, Ruyard Kipling

Logical form in the brain

“There exists here different logical structures from the ones we are ordinarily used to in logic and mathematics. Thus logic and mathematics in the central nervous system, when viewed as languages, must structurally be essentially different from those languages to which our common experience refers”

John von Neumann, Computer and the brain, 1958.

"Ho deciso allora di conoscere la sapienza e la scienza, come anche la stoltezza e la follia, e ho compreso che anche questo è un inseguire il vento, perché molta sapienza, molto affanno;
chi accresce il sapere, aumenta il dolore
".
Ecclesiaste 1, 17/18

H. Melville, Moby Dick

Certain knowledge, vague language

It is easy to speak with precision upon a general theme. Only, one must commonly surrender all ambition to be certain. It is equally easy to be certain. One has only to be sufficiently vague. It is not so difficult to be pretty precise and fairly certain at once about a very narrow subject.

Charles Sanders Peirce (CP 4.237)
